“Reality Is What You Make It:  Collection Management in Two Vermont Academic Libraries”: Discover collection management philosophies and techniques from the front lines of library service delivery in an experiential college learning environment AND from the collection management/tech services division of a liberal arts college. Learn about evidence-based content decisions: analyzing usage statistics, allocation formulas that shift a significant portion of book purchasing toward high circulation subject areas, decisions tied to cost-per-use, new subscriptions based on evidence of “expected use.” The panel will examine what can rationally be accomplished with a small staff and presents provocative questions and propositions intended to elicit responses and discussion from attendees.

Laura Crain, Saint Michael’s College and Ben Johnson, Vermont Technical College
